Hotels

This HOT Toolkit is for you if you are a hotel, motel, B&B, or any short-term rental entity collecting taxes on overnight stays and you would like to establish and/or strengthen partnerships with local arts entities.

As you may know, recipients of HOT funds for the arts must “promote tourism and the convention and hotel industry.” The vibrant array of arts programming funded by HOT must be accessible to the public—which means the ideal venue is a public setting, not private—and it must be promoted and marketed outside of the community to help attract out-of-town visitors. Hotels, working together with artists and arts organizations, can strengthen the ability to get the word out about events, and can build relationships that are mutually beneficial and help increase HOT resources!

How to use this Toolkit:
The hotel business is increasingly competitive. Building brand loyalty, attracting local residents and tourists alike are essential. This Toolkit will show you how the arts can play a supportive role which will in turn help to sustain and grow your business.

Your tools:
Start at the beginning or jump in where you need to. While we all know that overnight stays in a hotel create direct and positive impacts on Hotel Occupancy Tax receipts, there are additional ways that hotel revenue can be increased. These tools provide a host of examples and, while they build on each other, they can also be considered on their own.
