Tool #4: Promotion of HOT & the arts

The average overnight guest does not know how the room taxes they pay at check-out are expended. Consider making your guests aware that their overnight stay is supporting local artists and arts organizations. Include a note on the final bill thanking them or add language to in-room materials. Consider lobby signage that spotlights a local artist or arts organization every month.

Ask your local arts partners to include questions in their audience surveys. Suggest that they inquire about hotel block booking and hotel activity directly related to the HOT-funded arts events or the special visitor amenities audience members are looking for.

Work with your community convention and visitors bureau (CVB) to promote local arts events through your concierge services, hotel staff training, hotel/CVB communications, or other similar measures to inform hotel staff and hotel guests of local arts-related offerings. Such communications can help encourage hotel guests to extend their stay in area hotels and/or make a return visit!
